This rare handknotted Turkmen wool rug (155 x 245 cm) is a striking piece of Turkmen heritage, crafted in the Lebap province by four master artisans over 490 hours. Featuring the distinctive Ersari Gul pattern, its deep red tones and oriental design offer timeless elegance and rich cultural symbolism.
Made from 100% premium wool with a strong wool foundation, this rug boasts a knot density of approximately 176 KPSI, ensuring exceptional durability. Though woven in the mid-20th century (1950s), it remains in excellent condition — dirt-repellent, fire-resistant, and suitable even for floor heating or high-traffic areas.
With its refined oriental look and authentic Turkoman origin, this Turkmen rug brings both functionality and sophistication to any interior — a true heirloom to cherish for generations.
Please ignore any creases on the rug, as these are due to it being tightly packed during transit. The creases will naturally disappear within about a week once the rug is laid flat and walked upon. During the weaving process, handmade rugs remain on the loom for an extended period. Over time, this can lead to a buildup of microscopic dust particles within the fibers — often invisible to the naked eye. As the rug is used, these particles gradually rise to the surface. With regular vacuuming, these fine particles are removed, revealing the rug’s true colors and natural vibrancy.
Unlike mass-produced carpets, handmade rugs don’t wear out with use — in fact, they get better. As you walk on them and care for them properly, the fibers become softer, the colors deepen, and the rug develops even more character. With the right maintenance, a handmade rug doesn’t just last — it becomes more beautiful and valuable with time.
If you're storing your wool rug for an extended period, it’s important to let it breathe. Every 3–4 months, take the rug out, lay it in the sun for a few hours, and allow it to air out. This helps prevent moisture buildup, discourages moths, and keeps the wool fibers fresh and healthy. Proper storage and occasional sunlight can significantly extend the life of your rug.
